CCS Serves as Expert for the UNFCCC's First Global Dialogue on Impacts of Response Measures

October 17, 2024. The Center for Climate Strategies (CCS) served as an expert for the UNFCCC’s “First Global Dialogue on evidence-based approaches and holistic strategies to maximize co-benefits and minimize negative impacts of implementing NDCs.” With representatives from countries around the world, CCS showcased its work in Africa, Central America, and Asia to demonstrate effective approaches for multi-objective climate change plans and implementation strategies. These include linking climate action with national priorities in the USAID Rwanda Power Africa project; implementing stakeholder engagement as demonstrated in the USAID Guatemala LEDS project; co-developing transparent modeling tools and templates as developed in the Africa LEDS Project in Cote d’Ivoire; and providing in-country capacity building as implemented in the China Low Carbon Partnership Project.

Through these programs and procedures, CCS has helped countries access the opportunity and means for multi-objective climate policy development. This technical assistance is important to countries that are in the process of updating their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), developing their Long-term Strategies (LTSs), and moving to implementation to achieve the required greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction in this decade. It is critical that they are equipped with tools and capacities to ensure that their climate change goals are met in a just and equitable manner, without hindering their economic growth or negatively impacting more disadvantaged communities. To achieve this, tools exist for customization to a country's context and local capacity expansion.
