CCS Discusses Climate Finance Accessibility at New York Climate Week

October 9, 2024. Tom Peterson, President and CEO of the Center for Climate Strategies (CCS), moderated a high-level panel on Climate Change Finance Accessibility at NY Climate Week with Secretary Serena McIlwain of the Maryland Department of the Environment and Deputy Undersecretary Leslie Biddle of the Commercialization program at the US Department of Energy. This event was part of the Green Recovery Alliance, a partnership between Climate Group and CCS.

Tom provided remarks to an international audience, and led a discussion that elicited the following takeaways:

  • Markets for the goods and services that drive the American economy are becoming cleaner, greener, and more equitable as a reflection of our nation’s changing needs and the value added of these attributes to consumers, businesses, and investors.

  • New, policy-driven investments in technology and infrastructure are leading the way to this new economy.

  • Now is the time for communities across the US to capitalize on historic federal funds and incentives to accelerate the transition to sustainable markets and financial mechanisms, formulate new products and services, create a newly skilled workforce, and form new enterprises.

CCS is working with states and localities across the United States as well as international partners to accelerate and broaden this trend with thought leadership, capacity building, tools, and collaboration.
