Madre de Dios, Peru. The Center for Climate Strategies (CCS) is pleased to announce the completion of the Decarbonization Pathway for Madre de Dios following two years of intensive collaboration and assessment involving cooperation by the government, local stakeholders and experts, with international expertise and assistance by CCS, Winrock International, The Climate Group, WWF and GCF Task Force.

Over 60 participants joined the final webinar on April 21, 2021 to review final results of the Decarbonization Pathway actions developed for the region to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 61 percent from baseline conditions by 2050 towards a transformational mid-century reduction goal. Specific actions were designed for the agriculture, forestry and other land use sectors and structured to support short term economic recovery, long-term sustainability, and social equity.

The Pathway Project has been underway since 2019 with regions of Mexico, Peru, and Brazil to foster public-private cooperation and develop mid-century decarbonization approaches for low carbon agriculture, forestry and other land uses, energy, transportation, buildings, and industry. Pathway Actions can stabilize Earth’s climate and reduce the risk of loss and damage associated with climate change. They provide avenues for cooperation and collaboration to advance local community development, sustainable economic recovery, investment mobilization, health, and social equity through modernization of energy and natural resources use.
