CCS Completes Cote D'Ivoire Low Carbon Economic Capacity Building

The Côte d’Ivoire national LEDS modeling team and CCS completed the final phase of the two-year Africa LEDS Project in Abidjan in September 2019.

The Center for Climate Strategies (CCS) has completed a two-year capacity building process for a team of 25 national modeling experts in Côte D’Ivoire through the Africa Low Emissions Development Strategies (Africa LEDS) Project. This cooperative program was conducted with the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development of Côte D’Ivoire with support from the European Commission, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the LEDS Global Partnership and the Africa LEDS Partnership. It was designed for development and implementation of new low emissions development measures in all sectors that improve social, economic and environmental conditions and contribute to Nationally Determined Contributions. 

The training and pilot program provided co-development of an integrated modeling framework and associated analysis tools with application support through a learning by doing pilot for improvements in the rice value chain (a set of smart cultivation practices and bioenergy production from rice husk). CCS provided instruction, tool development, and technical assistance for the design of low emissions development measures and the analysis of their economic, emissions, energy, and resources impacts, including social and financial impacts. Results of the training and tool development program will support formation of local counseling teams that will work with senior policy makers and the business community for the development of national scale up programs and pilots.
